Jordan Yates' Newmarket Solera Preview. (11/08/2018)
The Sweet Solera Stakes is the contest that takes centre stage at HQ this Saturday on the July Course and it's a Group Three contest for fillies that's ridden over a distance of seven furlongs. We have seven runners in this year's renewal so a bit of a shame when it comes to each way punters however it's still quite a competitive affair with Mark Johnston's Main Edition heading affairs trading at a general 11/4 mark. Winner of the Albany at Royal Ascot she was last seen when finishing seventh in Group 2 company here at the July Festival when meeting rather severe interference in running. With a clear run here she's got an obvious chance of bouncing back and going close for a yard that churns out winners for fun. P J McDonald takes the ride.
Re opposing Main Edition again here is Godolphin charge La Pelosa for Charlie Appleby. She was slightly disappointing the last day at Sandown when getting turned over at odds on and she'll be looking to return to the form she showed when a close second to Main Edition in the Albany. Brett Doyle takes the ride and she's a general 10/3 chance. A horse that finished above La Pelosa at Sandown the last day in Listed company was Ajrar for Richard Hannon. She looked a potentially smart sort when winning on debut at Lingfield and confirmed that promise with that solid second the last day. She can also be found in the market around the 10/3 mark and is the mount of Tom Marquand.
John Gosden is represented here in the form of Pennywhistle who was last seen when winning over course and distance here last month despite not quite looking the finished article. She finished third on her debut run despite a wide draw at Kempton and was beaten that day by Look Around who went on to win the Listed contest at Sandown finishing above La Pelosa and Ajrar. You can find Pennywhistle in the market around the 4/1 mark and is partnered with Frankie Dettori.
The rest of the field is made up by course and distance winner California Love (11/1) for Richard Spencer who's the mount of Tom Queally. Implusion (16/1) for Roger Varian and Andrea Atzeni, and finally the outsider of the field Model Guest at 28/1.
VERDICT: I'm going to take a chance on PENNYWHISTLE for John Gosden and Frankie. The win the last day here gave the impression that there could be a lot more to come and I think we might just see that here. If more rain comes she might well have to prove herself on the ground but i'm hopeful of a decent showing from her here with Dettori on board.
PENNYWHISTLE - (4/1)
