I’m giving FOXES TALES a vote of confidence in what looks a quality edition of the Wolferton Stakes this afternoon.

He’s drawn out in the car park but that didn’t stop this lad from hosing up at this meeting last year, taking the Golden Gates Stakes by a widening two and a quarter lengths when breaking from stall 13 from 14. The form of that win didn’t stack up but by the time the season had ended he was officially rated 111. Mountain Angel managed to win this race off of that mark in 2020, and Addeybb off of a pound higher the year before, so he is certainly within range.

The ground poses a potential concern, given he clearly relished the soft going here 12 months ago but I am drawn to his performance behind Dubai Honour on the Newmarket July course that followed his victory here. At the time, beaten a head by what looked like a much inferior horse, giving him 9lbs, didn’t look like the best piece of form before that rival followed up in two Group 2’s out in France. They pulled well clear that day, on a quick surface, and hitting a decent 114 RPR.

He then took the Rose Of Lancaster before getting beaten a neck by the improving Solid Stone at Newbury and a solid enough 7th after a long season in the Champion Stakes back here. He probably didn’t stay the mile and a half last time out but his return behind Mostahdaf was solid enough and he should be stripped fitter for today!

OUTSIDER TO GO WELL…

Certain Lad 22/1 E/W

At a massive price I think the form of CERTAIN LAD stacks up well and hopefully he can be the one to chase Foxes Tales home! A strong return behind Solid Stone, both running a very good time, and he had both a subsequent winner in Megallan behind him and the re opposing Majestic Dawn. That may well have put him right for this afternoon and I think he’s sure to go well.
