Jordan's Newmarket July Cup Preview

The race that most would consider as the race of the entire meeting in the July Cup. It’s headed by the outstanding unbeaten Caravaggio for AP O’Brien on the back of his win in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. I went against him that day and went for Harry Angel at a better price and at one stage it looked as though Harry might of got him into a bit of trouble but then he picked up won in style.

After watching that race back it’s hard to see Harry Angel turning the tables, the only way it does seem a possibility is if Harry Angel is rode with a little more restraint this time around which may well be the case.

Limato, The Tin Man and Tasleet look to be the main challengers out of the older horses on the back of their exploits in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. The Tin Man came out on top that day and another big run looks more than likely on the cards as seems the case with Tasleet who was second.

I’m not giving up on one of my favourite flat performers of recent years in Limato just yet though. Granted he hasn’t been at his best arguably since his win in this last year but if he gets his fast ground and everything goes right for him he has the capability of winning any sprint race on the planet. He met trouble close home at Ascot when third in the Diamond Jubiliee but with a clearer passage on his perfect surface you’d be foolish to rule him out just yet if he brings his A game. Caravaggio again will take the world of beating though for the all conquering connections.
